Dental care in the United States is delivered mostly by private practices: a general or family dentist who handles exams, cleanings, fillings and crowns, and refers out anything that needs a specialist. Group practices and dental clinics put several dentists, hygienists and sometimes specialists under one roof, often with evening and Saturday hours. Most offices ask new patients for a comprehensive exam with X-rays before routine cleanings, which the American Dental Association recommends every six months. Prices are set by each practice, and most accept dental insurance (PPO plans more widely than HMO ones), CareCredit-style financing or an in-house membership plan for people without coverage. Emergency dental services take same-day patients for toothaches, broken teeth and abscesses, usually at a premium.

I researched and located this office, affiliated with Affordable Dentures & Implants, for my sister. She resides about 50 miles from their Vestal office. She setup an appointment for an initial consultation for 1:00PM on October 12th. She arrived about a 1/2 hour early. Due to Covid, she was instructed to phone the office when she arrived. She called the office phone number around 12:50pm from her car parked in their parking lot. No one answered the phone. She left a message stating that she is out in the parking lot and was waiting for someone from the office to call her. No one called. At 1:15pm she called the office number again and someone answered the phone. My sister explained that she called earlier and left a message since no one answered the phone. The person on the phone then proceeded to tell my sister that she was late for her appointment! My sister stated she was not late and arrived about 1/2 hour early. My sister asks the person, if she will be able to see the dentist or would she need to make another appointment. At this point the person who was speaking to my sister hung up the phone! My sister has never been treated so rudely and unprofessionally
